Education Champions

FAQs

What support is available?
Education Champions can access online training and support to use tried and tested collateral so that they can go to schools with the confidence that they can deliver genuine added value content to students.

What will my commitment be?
As with any volunteer programme, the time you wish to dedicate to this programme is entirely up to you depending on other commitments. Understandably, some volunteers might wish to visit more than five local schools per year and others might be able to commit to just the one.

How are workshops delivered?
All sessions are delivered by our network of Education Champions. This take place primarily face to face and in school but we also have the option of remote delivery in areas where we do not have volunteers and thus giving the opportunity to people from across the network to support.

I want to deliver a workshop at my local school, what do I do?

Should you already have a contact of a local school, we are able to provide you with the necessary information to share with the school about the My Personal Finance Skills initiative. However, we are also working on a national school campaign to match Education Champions with a local school.

Who are sessions aimed at?
All sessions are targeted at students between the age of 15-18 and require between 1h-1h30 to deliver in groups no more than 35 students.

Where can I find more information?

Make sure to have a look at the 'document links' tab here where you can find information about the workshops delivered and much more. You can also see our consumer facing site, My Personal Finance Skills here. This site includes all the relevant information about the programme for educators and students. You can also download a copy of the school leaflet here

What is the financial education sign-off?
The financial education sign-off process is something we are introducing for Education Champions using one of the financial education materials for the first time.  This simple process requires Education Champions to complete three tasks at least two weeks before delivering the first session.

These tasks include:

  • Read through presentation guide
  • Ensure the full training webinar has been viewed
  • Complete a dry-run and return a self-assessment feedback form

Once signed off, you will not be required to get sign-off for the other materials as their format and delivery style are similar.

Why is the financial education sign-off required?
To ensure quality and consistency of delivery, Education Champions will be required to complete our financial education sign-off process. Not only this, the sign-off will help support in the successful delivery of a workshop.

What resources will be provided?
All resources will be provided to you prior to a session taking place. We really want your role as an Education Champion to be fulfilling and rewarding and to be a key part in your growth as an individual.

Will I manage a classroom of students?
As you are not qualified teachers you are not allowed to be left with students without the support of a member of the school staff. The school will remain responsible for all matters around student behaviour and discipline. As an Education Champion you will be invited into school as a specialist guest to assist with specific specialist skills. In this case financial education and giving an understanding of the personal finance profession.

Will I need a DBS check?
You will not need to have a DBS check as you will not be left unattended with the students at any time. Volunteers who are accompanied by staff do not need any DBS certificates and PFS Education Champions have never been asked for them before.

When can I start?
Once you register your interest in the programme, you will receive all the necessary information to start your outreach journey.

How do I sign up?
If you would like to take part in the My Personal Finance Skills pro bono initiative please register here

I have signed up, what are the next steps?

Once you have registered your interest, you will be contacted by a member of the team with more information about the programme. You will gain access to online tutorials on how to deliver one of our sessions. Should you already have a contact with a local school, we are able to provide you with a proforma email template. However, we appreciate that not all Education Champions have a school contact so, we are working on a national school engagement campaign to match Education Champions with a local school.

I still have questions, who do I contact?
