In our next 5 minutes with feature, we catch up with Simon Dawe, Managing Director at TH March.

They are the largest firm of specialist jewellery insurance brokers in the UK and have been looking after jewellers and their customers since 1887

With offices across the UK, they are experts in insuring valuable and treasured possessions such as jewellery and watches.

Grab a cuppa and read on to see how they have been living the Chartered Ethos.

How long has your firm been Chartered?

Since 2012.

Why is Chartered status important to your business?

Chartered status is the gold standard for professionalism in the UK insurance sector.

It’s a trusted mark that signals integrity, expertise, and high ethical standards, something customers should actively seek when choosing an insurance provider.

Just as you'd turn to a chartered surveyor for a home inspection or a qualified solicitor for legal advice, choosing a Chartered Insurance Broker ensures you're getting advice from professionals committed to excellence, not just a cheap price.

It’s a clear point of difference in a profession y where quality can often be overlooked.

What initiatives have the organisation been involved in which have had a social impact/focus on corporate social responsibility?

In January 2023, we launched our Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) Scheme, offering TH March Group employees the opportunity to volunteer during work hours and contribute positively to our local communities.

Volunteering not only empowers employees to give back but also promotes personal and professional growth, while supporting causes they care about. At TH March, we recognise the critical role businesses play in leveraging their resources and platforms to make a meaningful impact on charitable initiatives.

By supporting charities, we help address social and economic challenges, strengthening the fabric of our local communities. As these communities thrive, so too do the businesses that call them home. So far over 300 hours have been dedicated to volunteering within our local communities across the UK and is something we heavily promote and encourage internally.

In 2023 we also established an ESG Committee who are making great progress on raising awareness around the importance of sustainability and business impact on our pledge to become carbon neutral by 2030.

How do you ensure your employees remain at the forefront of their profession?

At TH March, we believe in the power of education and the value of professional development and qualifications. That’s why all customer-facing employees are supported in achieving the CII Certificate in Insurance, fully funded by us and required within their first 15 months.

For many, this is just the beginning. A growing number of our team are actively working toward their CII Diploma in Insurance and ACII, with several already achieving impressive results.

Our ongoing commitment to training ensures our clients, both commercial and personal, receive expert guidance from knowledgeable, qualified professionals.

We also support professional qualifications in other areas of business such as Finance and HR and Marketing. Training is very much a part of culture at TH March and is fully supported.

How have you implemented the CII Code of Ethics into your business?

Treating people fairly is a core principle at TH March, embedded in our culture and reflected in everything we do. We’ve taken this further by publishing our Vision, Mission, and Values, which clearly set out our high standards: putting customers first, doing the right thing, seeking solutions, and working as a team. The CII Code of Ethics actually form part of Staff Handbook as well.

Our commitment to ethics and professionalism extends beyond Chartered status. We actively support the wider insurance community through strong involvement with the CII. Our Head of CX, Nat Brown, has held multiple leadership roles since 2008, including President of the Insurance Institute of Plymouth and Cornwall and, most recently, National
Forum Officer.

Our Regional Director – HR, Jo Morgan, also served as President in 2020/21, and from our Commercial Insurances division, Assistant Manager, Venetia Hallam served as President 2023-25.

Many of our colleagues have contributed over the years, reflecting our dedication to shaping a stronger future for the profession.

What advice would you give a firm who is considering applying to become Chartered?

It brings real benefits not just for customers, but also for your team and business partners. It reinforces trust, showcases professionalism, and celebrates the value of our profession.

Use the application guide as a foundation, then demonstrate how your business exceeds those expectations. We took a measured approach, reviewing our points allocation and making strategic improvements over 12 months to strengthen our application.

Becoming Chartered isn’t just a box to tick; it’s an ongoing commitment to maintaining excellence and consistently delivering value to all stakeholders.
