The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) publish new guide on how to purchase protection insurance for vulnerable customers.

This new guide provides helpful advice on how to purchase protection insurance to suit the particular needs of those living with a disability or pre-existing medical conditions.

As well as summarising the range of protection insurance available in the market, the guide also outlines some of the obstacles that some customers have faced when trying to find a product that best suits them. As explained in the guide:

"Many people that need this important type of insurance simply don’t know where they can get a policy that suits them. If you have a disability or have had a medical condition such as a heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes or a mental health condition some insurers may not be able to insure you, or charge a much higher
premium or exclude your medical condition."

By recognising that vulnerable customers are sometimes priced out of or excluded from most protection insurance policies, this guide shares several case studies on the difficulties some customers have faced when looking for appropriate cover and what was available for them.

The guide also provides information about BIBA's Find Insurance signposting service.
