In our next 5 minutes with feature, we catch up with Jackie Hyde, Managing Director at Stanmore Insurance Brokers Limited.

Formed in 1962, Stanmore Insurance Brokers Limited have been providing personal and professional insurance to North West businesses – offering protection and peace of mind.

Taking a sector-specific approach, they specialise in insuring children’s nurseries under the dot2dot nursery insurance scheme.

Grab a cuppa and read on to see how they have been living the Chartered Ethos.

How long has your firm been Chartered

13 years.

Why is Chartered status important to your business?

We pride ourselves on attaining Chartered status as it demonstrates our focus on providing excellent technical expertise alongside the quality of our customer service.

We are a business that never stands still and is always evolving, so as the Chartered status has to be renewed each year, whilst completing our annual submission there is an additional opportunity to reflect and decide if any improvements can be introduced.

What initiative has the organisation been involved in which has had a social impact/corporate social responsibility focus on?

We work very closely within our community in Bolton and are privileged to play a part in supporting our local charities.

In addition to giving financial support through sponsoring events and raising vital funds, I give time to these charities to help where I can in their development including, being a member of a Fundraising Board.

We have recently had a refurbishment to our office, and this has given us the opportunity to allow our charities to use our facilities to hold events or use our board room, when needed.

How do you ensure your employees remain at the forefront of their profession?

The insurance industry is changing so quickly, and it is essential that are employees are focused on their development. All colleagues are given the opportunity to achieve qualifications through the CII and we are proud several of them have achieved their ACII, Diplomas and Certs.

For others, exams aren't the best way to learn, so they will complete internal and external training including developing soft skills. Three of our Senior Leadership Team have completed the Aviva Future Leadership Program, and this has brought new ideas and focus to our business.

How have you implemented the CII Code of Ethics into your business?

I strongly believe we have always had these ethics embedded into our culture prior to them being released. However, since their introduction there has been training so the team understand what is needed and we have the codes signposted around the building as a regular reminder.

What advice would you give a firm who is considering applying to become Chartered?

It is such a worthwhile process and there are lots of benefits such as training and guidance to help you progress the business. There is also a focus on developing your people.
