You’re now a member - so what next? Attend an event, brush up on your technical skills, connect with peers through our networks? Your first six months are all about exploration, collaboration, learning and growth. Here are out top 10 suggestions for new members:

  1.  Connect with your local region

All new members are allocated a local region – usually close to where they live or work. Run by member volunteers, our regions bring you closer to a network of diverse individuals, as well as providing first-class technical and regulatory CPD events, social and networking activities.

Click here to find out more about the support you can access through your local here.

  2. Showcase your member status

Update your online profile to reflect your new member status and demonstrate your commitment to professional standards by applying the member logo to your LinkedIn profile, email signature and business cards. If you’re a qualified member you can also promote your achievement by displaying your designations.

  3. Start your CPD

Whether you are new to the sector or a seasoned professional looking to keep up with the latest trends and developments - CPD is a cornerstone to a successful career. By maintaining your knowledge and skill you ensure you remain relevant and effective as an insurance professional. Check out the Learning Content Hub to find resources that suit your learning needs.

  4. Attend a digital event

Our comprehensive digital events programme comprises a huge range of relevant topics covering everything from the effective communication and dealing with vulnerable customers, to understanding the latest technology and regulatory changes. Watch, listen and learn without leaving your desk – or sofa – and if you cannot attend live, catch up on demand at a time that suits you.

  5. Join our online communities

Connect with your peers and get the latest reactions, comments, and discussions as they unfold. Our online communities are a place to learn, debate and connect with other personal finance professionals.

POWER - the biggest community of financial planning professionals.

  6. Take a qualification or work towards Chartered status

Our qualifications framework lets you plan a learning pathway to fit your current role and responsibilities, as well as your career aspirations. Enjoy discounts of up to 28% on exams, study materials and accreditation of prior learning when you continue your learning. Chartered status is a symbol of high technical competence and signifies a public commitment to professional standards. It can be achieved with 5+ years’ experience and completion of the APFS.

  7. Become a mentor or mentee

Mentoring can provide valuable support to individuals – at any stage of their career. Connect, our e-mentoring programme, allows those seeking to give back as a mentor, or learn as a mentee, to be matched together.

  8. Start using our free client-facing brochures

Promote your membership with clients and communicate the standard of professionalism and Code of Ethics that you adhere to. A great way to introduce yourself to prospects, our brochures are a great tool for client-facing members to take advantage of.

  9. Personal Finance Professional (PFP)

Keep an eye out for your first edition of the PFP – the official membership magazine for the Personal Finance Society. The next edition is due to land in May. Can't wait? Check out our brand-new website where each issue will be published and you can search for, access, share and download individual articles – and you can even save past publications to an e-reader device.

  10. Take advantage of member discounts

Perks is an affinity benefits scheme for all UK and International members. It provides access to a range of money-saving deals and discounts designed to save you money in your personal and professional life.
