CII & PFS Board Digest - May 2026

The CII Group and PFS Boards met jointly in May. It was immensely pleasing to have such a wide-ranging discussion that reflected both the scale of our organisational ambition and some of the practical challenges of delivery. There was a strong sense of forward momentum, with both Boards and our Executive team engaging in conversation about how we might evolve our strategic ambitions in ways that are both meaningful for members and grounded in the realities of the markets we serve.

A significant part of the discussion focused on Professional Pathways, our work to reimagine how we evidence professionalism in future. Of great importance to us all is how insurance and financial professionals, wherever they are based around the world, can join our membership family and help us to meet our Royal Charter mission. We reflected on how we may need to augment our offer in different geographical locations while maintaining a consistent commitment to high professional standards. We also noted that there are a great many roles across financial services beyond those we currently serve, such as in compliance. We agreed to challenge ourselves to consider how we could be more clearly seen to be the ‘go to’ body for those working in our professions.

Since our last meeting we have announced the appointments of two new Executive Directors, Ben Turner and Will Holt. They will help to support and advance all our strategic ambitions. It is not lost on us, however, that our leadership team could be more representative of the markets we serve. Board members were reassured about the approach to compiling vacancy shortlists while emphasising the need to continue taking diversity seriously. There was agreement that this should remain a focus in future appointments and engagement approaches.

We also reflected on the strides we have made in our thought leadership over the past 18 months or so – such as on vulnerability – and we had a healthy discussion about the impact we are seeking to make, especially around bringing new talent into our professions. This included considering how topics are prioritised, how outputs are used in practice, and how they connect to our broader strategic mission. The conversation evolved to cover business planning and this year’s budget setting process, which is about to begin, including the challenges brought by external factors, such as the US-Israel-Iran war and accelerated adoption of AI.

In concluding the meeting we reflected on the strong engagement we have created and which can be seen in member engagement; and the huge upswing in Net Promotor Score. All of which sets us up well for what we aim to achieve this year and next.
