The Personal Finance Society presented its inaugural Chartered Awards in 2009 to recognise the contribution that Chartered members are making to our drive for greater professionalism. Receiving such an award by your professional body will be ultimate endorsement of excellence and professional achievement.

More than 1,784 financial advisers are now proud holders of the coveted Chartered Financial Planner title, increasingly recognised as the gold standard of the financial advisory profession. Over 244 financial planning practices can now also distinguish themselves after being awarded corporate Chartered status.

As part of its support for the financial adviser community Skandia was the headline sponsor of the Chartered Awards as well as sponsoring the Chartered Financial Planner of the Year individual award.  Skandia believes the ongoing development of professional standards in the financial advice sector is crucial to ensuring financial advisers gain recognition for the valuable service they provide to consumers.

Peter Mann, chief development officer at Skandia commented: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the Chartered Awards. The PFS already does a huge amount of excellent work to help financial advisers manage their professional development and the awards will be a great opportunity to recognise excellence and commitment to the financial advisory profession. The focus on professional standards and qualifications is only going to increase with the Retail Distribution Implementation Programme so it is the perfect time to recognise the great progress many advisers have already made in this area."

The Chartered Awards were presented at a Gala Dinner in London, on 26 November. The evening was hosted by TV & radio presenter, political correspondent and Sony Award winning Speech Broadcaster of the Year, Jeremy Vine.
