Ethical culture: securing an ethical culture in a regulated environment

With the culture of financial services organisations being a key focus of public and regulatory concerns, our ethical guidance series is intended to provide a helping hand to individuals and firms across insurance and financial services. Ethical culture: securing an ethical culture in a regulated environment, which is the third paper in the series, considers how financial services regulation impacts on the development of an ethical culture.

The CII's series has been commended by the FCA's Director of Supervision, Clive Adamson in a speech on the need for the sector to adopt an ethical approach. Mr Adamson said that:

We want to work with the industry to constructively solve issues and enhance the trust and confidence of consumers in this market. We also recognise the value of industry-led initiatives such as the Chartered Insurance Institute's (CII) recent work on integrity culture and behaviours, in driving firms forward in the right direction.

In addition to our guidance series, we have also produced a pamphlet for practitioners entitled Demystifying the code of ethics. This simple guide provides case studies to illustrate the five principles which underpin the CII's Code of Ethics.
