Full steam ahead with FAMR.   The past fortnight has been as busy as always; with Autumn getting into full swing, the Rugby World Cup progressing but sadly without England, and the latest announcements on the Financial Advice Market Review (FAMR). The FAMR paper issued yesterday marks an important and promising first step for the future of professional advice and increasing access for the public. The challenge continues to be how we, as a profession, can operate efficiently, fairly and profitably but ensuring that the needs of our clients are firmly fixed at the centre of everything we do. The ability to offer your expertise to those who need it most but without the uncertainty of regulatory backlash or your business becoming unsustainable due to unplanned regulatory cost and FSCS levies. Here at the Personal Finance Society we continue to be actively involved in the process with Treasury, Department of Work and Pensions and the FCA. We will keep our members informed of developments and encourage your contribution either to us:, or directly to the review.

What's going on across the pond?   Some people see the jet-set lifestyle as glamorous, but as I sit here on a flight back from the US writing this week's blog, I can tell you it's not as attractive a lifestyle as you might imagine! As CEO I do occasionally have the pleasure of travelling to different countries to attend key industry events, this time to a 3 day conference in Boston, but I can assure you it's strictly business and run over the weekend to reduce the business impact for advisers.

New apprenticeship scheme for mortgage advisers »
Ground breaking new Mortgage Adviser Apprenticeship scheme - supported by government funding & incentives for employers You may have heard in the news that the government is committed to creating 3 million new apprenticeships by 2020. Well that sounds like good news, but apprenticeships have been around for a while now, so what is different, and why should it be of interest to the mortgage advice sector?

Paraplanning, Pilgrim's, Pension's, and Regulation!    It's been an extremely busy period since my last blog post, with various events and meetings around the country, including an opportunity to attend our first two Purely Paraplanning events which took place in Bristol and Leeds. I'm really pleased with the interest we've had in these events and following our London event at the end of the month we will have seen almost 350 paraplanner members in total. All credit and thanks to our Paraplanner Practitioner Panel chaired by Cathi Harrison, Founder of Parasols. It's been a brilliant response and we've received some really encouraging feedback so we will be putting this energy and enthusiasm into providing further dedicated support for this growing sector within our membership.
